Ambassador ENDO attends ATLA Defense Industry Forum

2026/6/25

On 17 June 2026, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya attended the Defense Industry Forum hosted by Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) in Makati.

The Forum was convened to further promote defense equipment and technology cooperation between Japan and the Philippines. This follows the review of Japan’s defense equipment transfer policy in April this year, and is in line with the Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership affirmed in the Japan-Philippines Joint Statement in May. Government officials and corporate representatives from both countries participated and engaged in active exchanges.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Endo highlighted the evolving security environment in which the scope of security is expanding beyond the traditional military field to the promotion of various advanced industries, the resilience of infrastructure, and the protection of supply chains. He also underscored the growing importance of "dual-use technology," which refers to technologies used for both civilian and military purposes.

Ambassador Endo further elaborated on the dual significance of defense equipment, explaining that it contributes to both national and regional security through defense equipment cooperation. He also noted its contributions not only to present-day security, but also its impacts on future generations.

In closing, Ambassador Endo welcomed the deepening security cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, describing it as more than a technical exchange, but a common endeavor aimed at promoting regional stability and the prosperity of both countries. This represents the shared commitment of both Japan and the Philippines in shaping a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future together.
