JCG training vessel ITSUKUSHIMA arrives at the Port of Manila

From 16 to 19 July 2026, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) training vessel ITSUKUSHIMA made a port call at the Port of Manila. 

During the visit, the Captain of the ITSUKUSHIMA paid a courtesy call on Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan. The delegation also visited the National Maritime Center. In addition, trainees aboard the ITSUKUSHIMA and PCG personnel engaged in sports exchanges, laying the foundation for a stronger people-to-people network that will support Japan-Philippines cooperation. 
 
In his remarks delivered at a reception held onboard the ITSUKUSHIMA, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya highlighted that the arrival of the training vessel, coinciding with the 70th Anniversary of Japan- Philippines Friendship, symbolizes the enduring trust and friendship between the two countries. He further emphasized that the rules-based maritime order is being translated into meaningful action through the unwavering partnership between the JCG and PCG. 

This port call was part of the oceanic training voyage conducted for graduates of the Japan Coast Guard Academy, reaffirming Japan's commitment to promoting maritime cooperation and realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
