The Announcement of the Commemorative Logo for 2026 Philippines-Japan Friendship Year (70th Anniversary of Normalization of Diplomatic Relations)

2025/12/10
The governments of Japan and the Philippines have recently selected a logo to commemorate the 2026 Philippines-Japan Friendship Year, marking  70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations, under the theme of “Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities.” This logo was selected through a public competition, with collaborative efforts between the two governments.

Artist Introduction
Mr. Edmon Fuerte (Baguio City, Philippines)

Explanation of the logo
This logo mark features ropes which remind us of Japanese Shimenawa ropes and the Filipino Abaca (Manila hemp) rope, skillfully expressing the theme of the Friendship Year: “Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities.” It embodies the meaning of advancing toward a continuous and truly strong relationship. Furthermore, the design incorporates the colors of both nations' flags, the sun from the Japanese flag, and the three stars and the sun from the Philippine flag.

Supplementary Prize
The winner will receive one round-trip business class flight ticket between the Philippines (Manila) and Japan (Haneda), courtesy of Japan Airlines (JAL). Details, terms and conditions will be communicated to the winner.

In addition to serving as the official symbol of 2026 Japan-Philippines Friendship Year, this logo may also appear in commemorative Friendship Year events. For more information about these events, please visit this page.
