28 Filipinos accepted to the 2016 JET Programme

28 Filipinos are scheduled to depart on July 31, 2016 to take part in the 2016 Japan Exchange  and Teaching (JET) Programme as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT).

 Prior to their departure, the participants attended a pre-departure orientation seminar organized by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan with the cooperation of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Thursday, July 21, 2016, wherein they were given relevant resource materials and information on Japanese society and culture and their role as an ALT. In addition, His Excellency Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa hosted a send-off reception for the Filipino participants on the same day. Hon. Patricia B. Licuanan, Chairperson, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) was also present and delivered a message. CHED is the partner organization of the Embassy of Japan in the recruitment and selection process for the JET Programme.
 

On the next day, Friday, July 22, 2016, the participants met and exchanged views with Filipinos, who teach English at the Manila Japanese School in Taguig City. The teachers shared their experiences and gave some insights on what to expect in Japan.

 

All participants to the programme are expected to stay in Japan for an initial contract period of one year.

The JET Programme was introduced by the Japanese Government in 1987 to promote internationalization among local Japanese communities through cultural exchange activities and foreign language education. Over 60,000 participants from 63 countries around the world have already participated in the programme since its launch.
