First Japan-Philippines Meeting for Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Towards Emission Reduction
Greetings from the Co-Chairs
The first meeting of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between the Philippines and Japan was held in Quezon City last February 9, 2018 under the co-chairmanship of Japanese Embassy's Minister Makoto Iyori and DENR’s Head of Climate Change Office, Mr. Albert Magalang. The guidelines necessary for implementation were adopted during the meeting.
The establishment of this mechanism was agreed in January 2017, making the Philippines Japan’s 17th JCM partner. Under this mechanism, Japan will implement various projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Philippines through the utilization of Japan’s outstanding low-carbon technology. Through the mechanism, Japan will contribute not only to the Philippines’ environmental, energy and economic growth but also to international efforts to prevent climate change.
