Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) - Press Release No. 68- 2018

On December 11, the Embassy of Japan and the UN co-hosted the Bangsamoro Forum at the JICA Philippines Office in Makati City.  Over 100 participants joined the forum, including Ambassador Koji Haneda, Deputy Presidential Peace Adviser Nabil Tan, MILF Peace Implementing Panel chairman Mohagher Iqbal, Comelec Commissioner Al Parreño, and representatives of 15 countries and 19 international organizations. The forum sought to deepen the international community’s understanding of the Mindanao Peace Process through a discussion of current progress, future plans, and challenges. JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka conveyed his thoughts via a video message while MILF Chairman Murad, in a message read on his behalf, thanked Japan for its assistance.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Koji Haneda pointed out that the Mindanao Peace Process is now at a critical juncture where all the stakeholders, who have been involved in the Mindanao Peace Process one way or another, should get together to compare notes on the current situation in considering support for the future. He also emphasized that as a longtime partner, Japan wishes to continue to support the Mindanao peace process in a comprehensive manner, fully taking into account new circumstances after the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL). <Ambassador Haneda’s Speech: https://www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp/files/000429291.pdf >
