53 Filipinos (52 Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and 1 Coordinator for International Relations (CIR)) have been chosen to participate in the 2019 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. They are scheduled to fly to Japan on August 4, 2019.

The participants attended a pre-departure orientation seminar organized by the Embassy of Japan on July 17, 2019. During the seminar, the participants received essential resource materials and learned about Japanese society and culture in relation to their role.

Later that day, Ambassador Koji Haneda hosted a send-off reception for the participants.

On July 18 and 19, 2019, the participants visited the Manila Japanese School (MJS) in Taguig City, where they observed English classes and learned about Japanese classroom practices from the Filipino English teachers of the MJS.
