Visit of Minister and Consul General Hanada to Palawan Province

On June 3, Minister and Consul General Takahiro Hanada visited Puerto Princesa, the capital of Palawan Province, to meet with members of the Palawan Nikkei-Jin Kai and to exchange views with Palawan Governor Socrates.
During the 3 hour meeting with the Palawan Nikkei-Jin Kai, Minister and Consul General Hanada explained the recent efforts of the Japanese and Philippine governments regarding 2nd generation Nikkei-jin and answered numerous queries regarding nationality acquisition.
Prior to this, he also had a discussion with the Provincial Governor. He requested the governor to disseminate to the Local Civil Registry (LCR) in Palawan Province of the contents of the PSA Circular (CIRCULAR NO. 2024-31: see note below) regarding the delayed registration of the 2nd generation Nikkei-jin. He also affirmed to continue to strengthen and develop Japan-Philippines relations in Palawan.
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines will continue to work closely with the Philippine Nikkei-jin Kai, other regional chapters of Nikkei-jin kai, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Rengokai,and related organizations to do our utmost to assist in the nationality acquisition and temporary return to Japan, as well as to resolve various issues faced by the Nikkei-jin community.
