To restore livelihoods of farmers and fisher-folks affected by Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Surigao del Norte, the Government of Japan will contribute approximately 2 million US$ to “The Project for Restoring Livelihoods and Enhancing Resilience of Farmers and Fisherfolks Affected by Typhoon.”

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will implement this project, which is expected to benefit around 4,000 small coconut farming and fishing households in Bohol, Southern Leyte and Surigao del Norte. These areas were severely damaged by Typhoon Rai/Odette in 2021.Beneficiaries will receive agricultural and fishery inputs as well as adaptation of climate-resilient agriculture and fishery practices.

On August 31, 2022, Japanese Ambassador KOSHIKAWA Kazuhiko signed and exchanged notes for this project with FAO Representative Sheila Werz-Kanounnikoff.

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform in BARMM Minister Muhammad S. Yacob, Philippine Coconuts Authority Deputy Administrator Mr. Roel M. Rosales and Department Foreign Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary Ms. Neomi T. Diaz were also in attendance as witnesses to the event.

In his speech, Ambassador Koshikawa mentioned that the partnership with the FAO will help Filipino farmers and fishermen recover their livelihoods by overcoming the devastating consequences of Typhoon Odette last December “As we implement this new project, we strongly hope that this sense of solidarity from Japanese people will reach many Filipinos on the ground,” he added.
