Strengthening Partnerships for Lasting Peace and Stability in the Indo-Pacific
On 10 January 2025, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, in collaboration with Stratbase ADR Institute, organized a lecture entitled, “Reinforcing Japan-Philippines Strategic Cooperation to Maintain Peace and Stability in the Indo-Pacific” at the Manila Polo and Country Club, Makati City.
In his remarks, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya reiterated Japan’s commitment to further increasing interoperability with the Philippines to ensure security, stability, and prosperity in the region. He also underscored the importance of further strengthening regional and international cooperation to develop a framework that sustains peace and encourages growth.
The keynote lecture featured the renowned Dr. KAWASHIMA Shin, Professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Tokyo. The discussion explored the relevance and complexities of foreign policies in shaping international relations and upholding a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region.
A panel discussion followed presenting notable speakers, including RADM Rommel Jude Ong (Ret), Professor of Praxis at the Ateneo School of Government, and Dr. Chester Cabalza, Founding President of the International Development and Security Cooperation. The panelists provided comprehensive knowledge of the emerging trends and implications of foreign policies, covering topics such as maritime security and safety, the rule of law, diplomacy, and national security.
Also in attendance were government and military officials, representatives from the diplomatic corps, members of the academe, media, and civil society organizations.
The conference aimed to serve as a platform for fostering greater cooperation to achieve the shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
