Ambassador ENDO Kazuya visits the University of the Philippines – Los Baños on its 116th Foundation Day

On 6 March 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya and Madame ENDO Akiko took part in the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) 116th Foundation Day celebration.  

During the celebration’s convocation, UPLB Chancellor Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr. opened the program with his welcome remarks and introduced the institution’s planned projects for the year. University of the Philippines President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez also gave a special message to mark the festivities.  

 
In his remarks, Ambassador Endo lauded UPLB’s tradition of excellence and commitment to ensuring its research is rooted in the nation’s progress. He also commended the university’s expanding international linkages, including UPLB’s ongoing partnerships with leading Japanese universities such as Kyoto University and Nagoya University.  


Together with Chancellor Camacho, Ambassador and Madame Endo experienced riding on the UPLB’s E-Jeep service “eLBeep” (Electric Light Bus for the Environment and Economy Partnership) - a collaboration between Philippine local transport cooperative SNOBLOB and Kyoto-based Japanese company Assemblepoint Co. Ltd. 

 


During the campus tour, Ambassador and Madame Endo had the opportunity to visit many of the institution’s established research facilities. They first paid a visit to the Japan International Cooperation Agency – Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (JICA-SATREPS) project-research lab. Ambassador and Madame Endo also had the chance to visit the UPLB National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) to see the facility’s BIO-N biofertilizer production using equipment and machines donated by JICA. Lastly, they made a visit to the school’s Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) and Controlled Environment Research Facility (CERF) Smart Farm. 
 
 
Ambassador and Madame Endo also met with many of the institution’s Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship alumni during a Fellowship Lunch.
