Japan Signs Two (2) New Grant Contracts under Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects

On 19 March 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya signed two grant contracts under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects*1. The total amount of USD 594,447 (approximately PHP 34.47 million*2) will be granted to two Japanese non-governmental organizations (NGOs): Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement International (OISCA International), and ChildFund Japan. 
 
 
 
The details of the project are as follows:

 

1. OISCA International 
Project Name: Project to support the livelihood of local people in Northern Luzon and Northern Mindanao through the extension and expansion of sericulture 
Grant Amount: USD 177,056 
Overview: This project aims to conduct short-term sericultural training, seminars and trials in collaboration with the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) in Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, and Misamis Oriental. It involves the construction of a silkworm farm and mulberry plantation. Additionally, the project will also support the strengthening of stakeholder capacity through training programs, targeting representatives from each project site. 
 
 
2. ChildFund Japan 
  1. Project Name: Bridging the Gap: Improved Healthcare Access through a New Barangay Health Station in the mountainous area of Davao del Sur 
    Grant Amount: USD 417,391 
    Overview: This project aims to enhance healthcare access in Indigenous Peoples communities in Mindanao, Philippines, by providing primary healthcare facility and equipment, health education, and initiate access to the national health insurance. It will establish and equip a barangay health station, secure a Department of Health certification, and strengthen existing community health systems.  
     
     
     
 
*1 In the Philippines, the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects was initiated in 2002. Since then, the Japanese Government has awarded contracts for 67 projects in the Philippines under this scheme, amounting to more than JPY 2 billion (approximately 779 million pesos*3) in total. Japan believes that these projects will not only strengthen the friendship between the peoples of the Philippines and Japan, but also bolster the existing strategic partnership between the two countries.
