On 23 June 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya, together with RADM NATSUI Takashi, Commander, the Escort Flotilla 4, co-hosted a reception aboard the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) vessel JS ISE, in celebration of the 71st Anniversary of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. The vessel was docked at the Port of Manila.
The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including senior government officials, representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and members of the diplomatic community.
At the outset of the program, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and AFP Chief of Staff GEN Romeo Brawner Jr. delivered congratulatory remarks, highlighting the significant progress in defense and security cooperation between Japan and the Philippines in recent years.
In his welcome address, Ambassador Endo underscored the close geographical proximity of Japan and the Philippines as maritime nations and their shared strategic interest. He also emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral defense cooperation and noted that the recently approved Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) is a milestone that paves the way for further collaboration. Looking ahead, Ambassador Endo mentioned ongoing negotiations on an Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) and discussions on a potential future Agreement on the Security of Information.
The reception featured a selection of Japanese cuisine, prepared by the culinary team aboard JS ISE, in collaboration with the chef of the Ambassador’s residence. The event also included exhibits by eight Japanese defense-related companies, adding a dynamic element to the occasion.
