2025/8/28

On 28 August 2025, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Parliamentary League, led by Chairperson Ms. OBUCHI Yuko, visited Tanza Elementary School in Navotas City to observe the activities of the nonprofit organization (NPO) “Action.”

NPO Action provides a wide range of support to Filipino children, particularly those facing difficulties in their daily lives. Its programs include training for youth rehabilitation guidance counselors and life skills training for children in childcare facilities. These activities are carried out with the support of JICA’s Technical Cooperation for Grassroots Projects.

During the visit, Mr. YOKOTA Hajime, the representative of NPO Action, explained the various activities undertaken by the organization. Following this, Ms. MAEKAWA Miho, a JICA Volunteer, who is currently assigned to NPO Action's Olongapo office, gave a presentation on their “Chikara Project," an initiative aimed at supporting women in the community.

In her address, Ms. Obuchi, emphasized that Japan's international cooperation ensures that its support reaches the grassroots level, addresses diverse societal needs and strengthens bilateral partnerships by collaborating with representatives of Japanese NGOs such as Mr. YOKOTA, and dispatching individuals such as Ms. Maekawa, who are eager to engage in overseas volunteer activities as JOCV. She also expressed her intention to apply the insights gained from this visit to further enhance Japan’s international cooperation efforts.

Subsequently, the members of the JICA Parliamentary League visited a barangay in the Bicol area of Navotas City to observe the environment in which the local children live and to gain first-hand understanding of NPO Action’s work and contributions to the local community.
