Bunraku takes center stage at the Special Japan Cultural Night

On 26 November 2025, the Embassy of Japan warmly hosted the Special Japan Cultural Night at the Ambassador’s Residence in Makati City. The event featured the talented artists of the Bunraku Association Mr. YOSHIDA Minoshiro, Mr. YOSHIDA Minotaro, Mr. YOSHIDA Kazuma, Mr. YOSHIDA Tamanobu, Mr. TOYOMATSU Seinosuke, and Mr. YOSHIDA Kazuto.  
 

 
Showcasing the beloved Japanese cultural heritage, the Bunraku demonstration and performance depicted the captivating stories of the Excerpt from Hade Sugata Onna Maiginu (The House of Sake Merchant) and Kotobukishiki Sanbaso (Dragon and Phoenix Dreams).  


Bunraku or Ningyō Jōruri is the traditional puppet theater of Japan, which is also recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is a blend of chanted narrative, instrumental accompaniment, and puppet drama that retells Japanese historical events, folklore, and literature. Bunraku Association is a foundation dedicated to the preservation and promotion of this timeless art and has been conducting its activities since 1963.
