Ambassador ENDO Kazuya attends the International High-Level Forum on NUTEC Plastics

On 25 November 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya delivered the National Statement of Japan at the International High-Level Forum on NUTEC Plastics (NUclear TEChnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution) at the Conrad Manila Hotel. The forum was attended by President of the Philippines H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Hon. Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Hon. Renato U. Solidum Jr., International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Mr. KANDA Masato.
The forum brought together representatives from the Philippine government and IAEA members states, international experts on nuclear science and marine ecology, and other stakeholders. Focusing on NUTEC Plastics, nuclear science technology and its various applications were highlighted to address the ever-growing issue of global plastic pollution. The Philippines is one of the pilot countries for irradiation-based plastic recycling technologies, which is funded by Japan.
Reading the National Statement, Ambassador Endo conveyed that “Japan will work towards a sustainable solution to this critical issue in close cooperation with the IAEA as well as its partner organizations, while making best use of our expertise in recycling and nuclear science and technology.”
