Groundbreaking Ceremony for Japan-funded North-South Railway Project (Malolos-Tutuban)

On February 15, the grandbreaking ceremony for North-South Railway Project (Malolos-Tutuban) was held at Malolos City, Bulakan Province. Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade, Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda and other guests attended the ceremony.

This project aims to address the rising population and demand for transportation in Metro Manila. Japan has assisted the Philippines to implement this project by providing the Philippines with ODA loan amounting to 242 billion yen (115 billion pesos) as well as utilizing Japanese technologies and expertise from years of railway experience.

Ambassador Haneda stated that, “Japan takes pride in our close partnership with the Philippines in keeping the “Build, Build, Build” program in motion and at the same time realizing an efficient transportation network that Filipinos can rely on.” Secretary Tugade expressed his deepest appreciation for Japan’s support.
