NOTICE ON EXTENSION OF VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY (COE) RELATED TO THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

A “Certificate of Eligibility (COE)” is, in principle, valid for three (3) months from the date of issue.
However, the Government of Japan has decided to introduce an exceptional arrangement regarding expired COEs due to the impact of Novel Coronavirus, as follows:

1. Validity of COE

 For COE issued from May 1, 2022 to July 31, 2022
   → Valid for six (6) months form the date of issue
   Ex.) COE issued on May 1, 2022: Valid until November 1, 2022
          COE issued on July 31, 2022: Valid until January 31, 2023

2. Requirements

  Visa applicants whose COEs are applicable to the abovementioned "1" are required to submit Declaration (photocopy is available) as follows at the time of application.
* It is not necessary to submit Declaration, if COE has been issued within three (3) months from the date of visa application.
* For certain visas such as “Spouse/Child of Japanese National”, additional documents required. Please see this page.   

(1) Visa for employment, technical intern training, study
  ”Declaration (for status of employment eligibility etc.)” by accepting company, educational institution (university, Japanese school, etc.) and training institution, etc. stating that they are ready to accept the applicants as the same status of activity indicated in the application for the COE.

(2) Visa for “Spouse/Child of Japanese National”, “Spouse/Child of Permanent Resident” and “Long-Term Resident”
   ”Declaration (for status of residence) from the Japanese spouse, parents or relatives in Japan, etc. stating that they are ready to accept the applicants as the same family status indicated in the application for the COE.

3. Re-application for visa

  Applicants who have been issued a visa with COE but unable to depart to Japan within the validity of the visa due to the influence of Novel Coronavirus are allowed to apply for a visa again with the same COE, if the application is applicable to “1” and “2” mentioned above.
